    A novel and simple approach that combines both the character of laser beam and the size of the sphere array template was designed and the SERS study was carried out on "single" Au nanodot. The Au nanodots were deposited on the polystyrene sphere with a diameter of 2..6 mu m. The nanodot has a diameter of ca. 300 nm which was characterized by means of atomic force microscope (AFM) and scanning electron micro. scope (SEM). The Raman enhancement factor for Au is on the order of 10(6).
